Bed bugs are almost universally loathed and for very good reason. Not only are they creepy little bed-invaders but they also happen to be creepy little bloodsuckers. You won’t feel them as they feed but you will see and feel the results of their bites for sure. They are not known for carrying diseases like other blood-suckers but this does not mean they are welcome in your homes. With the numbers of bed bug infestations on the rise, need to be extra vigilant against these bed bugs.
One way to prevent a bed bug infestation in your own home is not to carry them home with you. For instance, if you stayed in a hotel room and the mattress had bed bugs you may unknowingly carry some of them home. They can hide in your clothes and even your luggage. If you have plans of staying in a hotel room soon, make sure you check the mattress for bed bugs and request a room transfer if you do find traces of them.
If you suspect that you may have come in contact with some bed bugs as you were travelling, make sure everything that has travelled with you gets cleaned out. This means you take the vacuum to your suitcase and wash all the clothes you have worn and even the ones you have not worn. Use hot water when possible so any bugs that may have hitched a ride will be very quickly exterminated. The next time you are out travelling, make sure you leave your suitcase and luggage on hard surfaces as bed bugs tend to stay in softer areas like rugs and carpets.
Clean out any clutter in your home as these become ideal places for bed bugs and other pests to hide in. The less clutter you have, the harder it will be for them to find a home and multiply. In the event that your house does get infested having less clutter means you will have an easier time applying the pest treatment to get rid of your unwelcome visitors.
If you have indeed thought you have found signs of bed bugs perhaps it is time to schedule a bed bug inspection by a pest control professional.
